Why Deep Linking Matters

November 30th, 2009 Online Marketing Advisors

When it comes to building links for your website one of the things that I often see people forget to do is to point links at some of the other pages in the website. It’s great that you have 1,000′s of links pointing to your homepage and for the most part your homepage probably ranks pretty well because of that. But if you have been struggling to get some of those other pages to the top of the search engines the problem is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have any links pointing at your inner pages.

For example, what if someone is looking to buy some guided meditation cds, they will probably go to google and type that in, if your guided meditation cds page is well optimized with a few links pointing at it then there is a pretty good chance that you will rank for the keyword guided meditation cds, thus sending quality traffic to your site and hopefully that traffic will turn into sales. As you can see there are advantages to pointing links at your inner pages, the bottom line is that it helps your inner pages rank better on the search enignes.

Another reason why you want to be deep linking is because it will make your entire website alot more powerful. If you are only pointing links to your homepage then it may appear to the search engines that your website is of little value, or that your links were generated by automation rather than by the value of your site. These are the things that you want to keep in mind when doing link building for your website. A well structured website with good inner linking will for the most part always out perform website which are not set up in this fashion.

So if you have a SEO Company working on your site right now then ask them about deep linking and whether or not this is something that their company provides, if they are not deep linking then ask them to start, if they refuse then you may want to start looking elsewhere in order to get better results. As alwasy, thanks for reading and may the serps be with you.
