Web Directories Bounce Back

Well it looks like goolge is finally letting their guard down a little in regards to the web directory market. Last week google released a bunch of directories that they had penalized for violating the google guidelines. Most of the directories were granted some of their page rank back while others gained back serps and showing up for their site name. However, there are still a few big name directories which are still under the radar and I wonder how long it will be before google finally lets them go. Read more…

Yahoo Directory – Does it help?

It seems that more and more people want to know if having a listing in the Yahoo Directory will actually help their site in terms of page rank and serps. This is a solid question, after all Yahoo wants $300 a year in order to stay listed in their directory so for that kind of money there must be some benefit. The truth is that a listing in the Yahoo Directory can in fact help your site, however, like all other links this will depend on where your site is listed in the directory. Naturally if your site is listed on page 30 of the category you submitted to there is not going to be much benefit in regards to page rank and traffic but the link is still good. So what are the benefits? Lets take a look at some of the pros and cons of being listed in this directory.

Start Your Own Web Directory

September 17th, 2009 Online Marketing Advisors 1 comment

It seems that web directories will never die, every day new ones pop up all over the internet. Sadly most of these will fall by the wayside, but this will not stop people from wanting to create them. The are alot of things one needs to before trying to start a directory. For example, there are some who would prefer to buy a dropped domain which already has page rank and then try to bank on that. Don’t go this route, at least not if you are serious about creating a directory that will last over the years.  You are better off choosing a brand name that webmasters will remember instead of just coming up with a  random domain.

Another factor you will want to consider is the type of directory you want to create. Do you just want to create a general directory that will be open to all websites? What about one that targets a specific niche or product? The possibilities are endless and there is still room for more. With some careful planing and a descent budget there is no reason why you directory can not be successful. I’m not saying that it will be easy, it takes time but it can work if done correctly. So keep those things in mind before you move forward.

With that said, I liked to point you to an article which will guide you in the right direction if you chose to start your own web directory. “How to Start Your Own Web Directory” from Hubpages. As always, thanks for reading.

A big topic going around right now is the power of a web directory. I quess the main question everyone wants to know is, what is the benifit of being listed in a web directory? But in order to understand how valuable a directory listing can be for your site you need to do a little research on the directory first. Yeah I know that takes time, but it is worth if you plan to invest money in a directory listing. Here are a few things I look for when deciding if it is worth it to submit to a certain directory.
