Just when I think that I have found all of the cool tools for running site analysis someone brings to my attention another one worth checking out. The guys over at Hubspot have put together an SEO tool called Website Grader, which measures the marketing effectiveness of a website. It provides a score that incorporates things like website traffic, SEO, social popularity and other technical factors. It also provides some basic advice on how the website can be improved from a marketing perspective.

As always when I find a really good article I like to share it with others, mainly because I found the information to be interesting and that others might want to learn from it as well. Anyway, I found a really good one by Eric Enge on the topic of whether or not if SEO is dying (see full article here). I don’t why people keep thinking that SEO is going to magically just die off and some new form of advertising is going to take it’s place. As Eric put it, defined properly: Read more…
I’m not much a bragger when it comes to my own rankings or even the rankings of my clients, I guess it is because I expect the sites to do well once I start working on them so it’s really no big deal to me. Over the past few weeks I have been working on getting some of the articles I post on this site indexed faster in google and things have been working out just fine. I’ve always managed to get them indexed in less than hour, usually in about 5 minutes. I recently wrote an article to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving 2009 for this year and to my amazement the page was indexed in just 2 minutes. Now I know that some have had faster results then this but this is the first time for me so I am kinda of proud of it. Read more…
When it comes to building links for your website one of the things that I often see people forget to do is to point links at some of the other pages in the website. It’s great that you have 1,000′s of links pointing to your homepage and for the most part your homepage probably ranks pretty well because of that. But if you have been struggling to get some of those other pages to the top of the search engines the problem is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have any links pointing at your inner pages.

I know I’m a little late posting this but I have been away from the blog for awhile working on a few other things. Anyway, it looks like Google finally rolled out another page rank update. Not much has changed on this side or the directory, but then again I wasn’t expecting anything either. We did get an update on some of our inner pages so I guess that is good. If you do a lot of forum reading you see that most people could care less about the green bar, and for good reason. The updates that google is sending out are not as shocking as they use to be, for awhile you would see sites go from pr 0 to pr 7 or 8 after only being online for a few months. Those times have clearly changed and google is doing whatever they can to keep focus off the green bar. Read more…
I’ve come across a really good article in regards to the future of SEO and the statistics behind it. If you have never heard of Lee Odden then now is a good to time to get to know him and the awesome articles he writes on the Toprankblog. In his most recent article he sheds light on the value of SEO and debunks the theory that SEO has no value. Read more…
Page Rank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.”
Important, high-quality sites receive a higher Page Rank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines Page Rank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query (http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html). Keyword Research starts with a general list of keywords that you want to target. We process this list and find out if people are searching for these terms. The goal of our keyword research services is to identify the specific terms or phrases that get people to your site (the niche terms) for example “stock market analysis” would be a better term to go for then “stock market”. The right terms make all the difference because if you have the specific terms or phrases, you will most likely capture your target audience. Read more…
If you browse the internet alot then you really can’t help but notice all the spam that is floating around out there. Most of the sites are the ones just looking to make a quick buck off viagra or some other quick buck scam. It’s a really sad story that there is so much of this stuff out there, but what is alot more sad is to see to the local search results flooded with duplicate listings. You would think that google would have this under control by now, but from the looks of things it just keeps getting worse and worse. I understand that some seo companies are trying to do what ever they can to get traffic and potential clients but putting 2 or 3 listings in every local search is going a little over board right?.
