Why Deep Linking Matters

When it comes to building links for your website one of the things that I often see people forget to do is to point links at some of the other pages in the website. It’s great that you have 1,000′s of links pointing to your homepage and for the most part your homepage probably ranks pretty well because of that. But if you have been struggling to get some of those other pages to the top of the search engines the problem is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have any links pointing at your inner pages.

Will Google Ever Back Off Web Directories?

If you have been running a web directory for the past 3-4 years or longer then you most likely have noticed alot of changes in the way google now views your directory. When you first started it looked as though google loved everything you were doing, they granted a nice page rank with good search rankings and fast indexing of new pages. But as time went on google started treating the site differently, they started dropping your pr by 1 point at a time, then they stopped indexing your new pages as well as dropping your rank. And for what reason? Read more…

Seahawks Cut Edgerrin James

Looks like the days of being a Seattle Seahawk are now over for running back Edgerrin James. Jame just did not seem to work out in the formation. It is sad because I always liked this guy, mostly when he was with the Colts. But like everything else, all good things must come to an end. Hopefully he doesn’t fully hang up his jersey but it might be the best thing for him to do, after all he has a great career and has nothing to feel bad about, he did what he could but it is now time to move on to something else. MSN Gets A Makeover

Microsoft has rolled out a redesign of the MSN website and have also included a new butterfly logo to go with it. Microsoft says the redesign is MSN’s most significant in more than a decade and that “The simplicity of the design is really based on feedback from our customers and looking at traffic on our sites.” The new site has half as many blue links, features tabbed browsing and integrates with Facebook and Twitter. The reduced home-page links will be augmented by the deeper integration of Bing search technology. Read more…

Apple Reaches 100,000 Apps

Yesterday Apple announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. This is an outstanding number considering that it only took Apple 2 years to reach this point.  With over 10,000 downloads a day worldwide Apple is clearly leading the way when it comes to apps thus making it the largest applications store in the world.

Microsoft launched with about 240 apps and now has around 20,000 available for Windows Mobile, but this is no where near the number that Apple has put out on the market. Microsoft does plan to announce further news next week about the Windows Martketplace for Mobile. In the meantime it looks like Apple will keep leading way. Read more…

New York Yankees Win 2009 World Series

At the time of writing this it is the bottom of the 8th inning with the Yankees leading 7-3, now unless the Phillies do something amazing in the next inning you can pretty say game over. Now I’ll be honest and say that I have not watched the full game, mainly because I am not a Yankee fan or even of the Phillies for that matter, but hey this is news worth blogging about so why not. If anything I can say that I am happy for ARod, if the Yankees do pull this off and win then the monkey will finally be lifted off of ARod’s back. I only say this because he was clearly in it for the money after he left Seattle, but who in their right mind would turn down over 200 mil. Read more…

Page Rank Update 10-30-09

I know I’m a little late posting this but I have been away from the blog for awhile working on a few other things. Anyway, it looks like Google finally rolled out another page rank update. Not much has changed on this side or the directory, but then again I wasn’t expecting anything either. We did get an update on some of our inner pages so I guess that is good. If you do a lot of forum reading you see that most people could care less about the green bar, and for good reason. The updates that google is sending out are not as shocking as they use to be, for awhile you would see sites go from pr 0 to pr 7 or 8 after only being online for a few months. Those times have clearly changed and google is doing whatever they can to keep focus off the green bar. Read more…
